The movie is based on a real incident and is written, produced and directed by Sofia Coppola, an Oscar winning filmmaker. The movie shows what the teenagers can do to fulfill their temptations which they cannot resist at their age.
The high school teenagers Marc Hall (Israel Broussard) and Rebecca Ahn (Katie Chang) started it as taking valuables and cash from unlocked cars and it further extended as robbery in celebrities residence. They used Internet to know about the whereabouts of the celebrities.
